William Franklin Colbert, Bill to those who knew him, was born in 1978. He is from a long line of Williams, whose name had been passed down for generations. He is a private investigator. Not an investigator in terms of divorce or murder, but an investigator of stolen jewellery. His work involves tracking down and returning stolen high value jewellery for the insurance companies. He was occasionally sent abroad to locate and recover the expensive possessions… Diamond bracelets, tiaras, real pearl necklaces, emerald brooches and the like. You know? The stuff that few people can afford and is kept locked inside a dark safe at home, supposedly well-hidden and burglar proof. He is good at his job. He’s a successful and popular businessman with an office in Surrey, a Partner and several employees and he owns a super expensive car. At forty-four years old he had done well, his comfortable lifestyle existing not least due to his hard work but also due to the support from his first and only love, Amelia. She preferred to be called Amy. He was twenty-one years old and single when they met in 1999. A dance hall in Richmond had brought them together while Bill was on a bender with some of his mates, celebrating a stag night in London. Bill’s tanned film-star looks, blonde wavy hair and sculptured physique captured Amy’s attention the moment he entered the room. She was there with some of her friends on a ‘girls-night-out’.
Today we talk about Behind Rose Bordered Windows, a book William A. Pollard published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author William A. Pollard to get to know him better, the moment that prompted him to the writing of his book Behind Rose Bordered Windows, as well as what the crucial themes of his book are.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What is the moment that brought you to the writing of your book?
It’s what I do. I am a published author and music composer and arranger. At 73 years of age writing books and music is my hobby.
- What are the crucial themes of your book?
The book is a ghost story, with an element of time travel and with a twist at the end. I got the idea of this book because my house faces other properties and the idea of what goes on behind the windows of those homes leant itself to the particular theme of this book. The book is in two parts; part one deals with the inheritance of a field with picture postcard cottages facing a manor house and what goes on behind the cottage windows. Part two deals with the capture of a serial murderer who, over a period of many years murders the occupants of the cottages – all witnessed by the man who inherited the field. The protagonist looks back in time to witness the murders as they are committed, each time he looks through the cottage windows from the manor house. When the murderer is eventually caught it transpires that all the cottages, and the people inside, are ghosts that disappear, leaving an empty field.
- What is the message you want to communicate to your readers?
I don’t have a particular message, except that crime doesn’t pay – even if years pass without being caught.
- How was your publishing experience?
With Europe Books, GREAT! I had help at all stages of the production and the production team were all polite, knowledgeable, efficient and, indeed, always available when I needed them.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
Yes. Have you ever had a run of bad luck? You have? Don’t worry because your run of bad luck will soon be over and you will start to have some well earn good luck. Another book in two parts; part one deals with the lives of eight finalists playing an internet game. Their quotient of good (or bad) luck is controlled by an unseen entity who specialises in changing people’s life luck. Part two deals with the internet game itself. The twist in this tale is that whatever happens to the players’ Avatar, also happens to the players in real life.
