Society believes that the doctor’s duty is to care for all, except herself or himself. Self-care for professionals entails professional misconduct; the hectic one. Misconduct bends some of the writ ten rules of professional conduct; but it is good for the body, mind and soul of the professional. It is good for you, too. The same misconduct breaks all the unwritten rules. Professional Misconduct definitely brings the medical profession into disrepute. Misconduct looks bad but fulfils my duty to the patient, society, state, and myself. Public health improves if society embraces professional misconduct. Healthy people are not a burden to the state. My duty to fellow doctors and the Council clashes with my duty to patients and myself. Professional Misconduct is not noble, but it does not harm the reader or patient. Misconduct definitely harms the image of doctors; but it improves the health of the patient, reader and myself.
Today we talk about Professional Misconduct, a book Walter Obal Ochan published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Walter Obal Ochan to get to know him better, the reason why he wrote his book Professional Misconduct, as well as what he would like to hear from the readers.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- When and why did you decide to write your book?
It was early 2020, the beginning of the HARD LOCK DOWN. I had made some Video Clips to share with my patients about “Keeping Active and Fit during the Hard Lock Down” I shared the first clip with a close friend, family and former school mates. Two were highly critical and totally opposed to the idea: It looked unprofessional. The majority found the video clip exciting; they wanted more. I dumped the video clips, never shared any with my patients, but I saw a book in the hard criticism. That was my lemon-to-lemonade moment
- What particularly significant experiences in your life find expression in your book?
The book (Professional Misconduct) is my life. My life is the book. Sleeping With Pain was my main motivation for the book and my lifestyle. I had Chronic Pain for about a decade (2003-2012) I describe this period as a period of Sleeping With Pain (Pain was on top of me). Pills & Needles alone couldn’t help. Being a doctor did not help. A changed lifestyle was what killed my Pain eventually. I finally got on top of Pain when I started practising and living Professional Misconduct. Currently I have special interests and training in getting patients on top of their pain, and Professional Misconduct is an important tool in preventing and beating Chronic Pain. My mission is to help patients/readers to:
- Sleep better with pain
- Stay on top of pain
- Prevent pain
- Kill pain
- Prevent diseases of lifestyle
- Prevent people from becoming patients (using Professional Misconduct)
- What would you like to hear from the readers?
“I think I need a little Professional Misconduct in my life”; “I will start Professional Misconduct as soon as I drop the book”; “I will drag my friends and family into the Misconduct Culture as in now”; “Professional Misconduct completely changed my life”; “I have stopped taking life too seriously ever since I read Professional Misconduct“.
- What sensations did you feel when your book has been published?
Yes! Now I can get to practise Professional Misconduct openly and there is a book to defend my misdemeanour! Now I can market my other books using Misconduct. Now I have some unconventional tool to motivate my patients and readers to change their lifestyle. Now I can use EduTainMed openly to:
- Educate readers/patients
- Entertain readers/patients
- Deliver a healthy message unprofessionally
Should I be deregistered by the Medical Council (Health Professions of SA), at least I have a book (or two) to sell!!
- Are you planning to write more books?
My keyboard is ablaze as we “speak” now. I have already published four (4) books on www.amazon.com, www.amazon.co.uk; www.googlebooks.com
- Sleeping With Pain. Never Allow Pain On Top
- Painocracy. Pain by the People, for the People, of the People
- INYONGO. The Usual Suspect
- Don’t Get A Small Bang For Your Buck. Think Like A Doctor; Act Like A Patient
The way I had wanted to market these other books always felt a bit unprofessional. Now I think I have the shouting rights; I can now market them along the lines of Professional Misconduct. I am grateful to Europe Books.
