Today we talk about When The Ego Dissolved, a book by Keketso Semoko published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Keketso Semoko, to get to know her better, where she found the inspiration that brought her to the writing of her book When The Ego Dissolved, as well as how her passion for Writing started.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write this book?
I found the inspiration of writing the book with the anticipation of making up time in the loneliness of the lockdown of the year 2020. I thought of a strange phenomenon, that COVID- 19 was, that this may not happen ever again in my lifetime as it was the first of its kind, that the whole word catches an influenza of the same virus at once, that it should be something to reflect on later in life. So, I thought the best way to remember the mystery of the turn of the decade, was just to recollect the days heaviness of the lockdown of 2020, on paper.
- What is the message you want to send out with your writing?
The message that I intended to send out was that, we as the world community are individuals that connect through song like JERUSALEM, irrespective of colour or creed, that we are the same in hearing the melody that thumps through our hearts, no matter the geographical location, we connect. Also, that, when you live alone, you are affected by the events of your life as it unfolds through the days and minutes, outside the job and routine of living out in the world. Life happens even when you live within your walls, in your house alone.
- How did your passion for writing start?
From when I was a little girl, I loved reading. As soon as I could string words together to make sentences, I fell in love with the written word. The love of being lost in the stories of places and things that were not familiar to you, excited me. Just the thought of someone learning of a different experience from a chapter in a book, excites me. Fiction or non-fiction, a story told holds the same value for me, if it resonates with me as a reader.
- How was your publishing experience?
The publishing experience was thrilling. As publishing is an art, it was interesting to be part of creating what was pleasing to the reader. Everything is relative of course, but with the editor represents a certain population of the reader out there, it’s reassuring to know that someone else finds value in your work. It therefore was an amazing journey to be part of the design of page layout, book cover and choosing the font that was the lay out that will be received by the reader. It was a pleasant form of professionalism indeed.
- Are you planning to write more books? Can you tell us more about it?
Yes. I am planning on writing more. As a matter of fact, I have another publication which is intended to be out by mid-2024. Besides the upcoming read, I have other stories that were long written that I will be dishing out to the public.
Europe Books thanks the author, Keketso Semoko, once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside her on the editorial path that led to the publication of her book When The Ego Dissolved. We wish her the best of luck for her future works.
