Today we talk about SPACE, a book by Diary Writer pulished with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Diary Writer, to get to know her better, what was the moment that led her to the writing of her book SPACE, as well as her passion for Writing started.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What was the moment that led you to the writing of your personal story?
Maybe it was my first grey hair or the break of my commercial job for a year. It was a time of reflection of my life. Time goes so fast, and I want to leave something special of me. What could be better than a diary for the public? By looking back at my childhood, youth and up to today, I can tell many people my story. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has had these thoughts, fears and joyful moments. If I create compassion while reading, then I have accomplished my mission. Although I think I have already achieved my goal with the first word for the book, as I have done something good for myself with it.
- What sensations did you feel by ‘reading’ your life on the pages of your book?
It was proud and magic at the same time. I did my own milestone. Only for me. And that feels so good. However, there were also moments when I felt sorry for myself. Those moments where I felt insecure, lost or even hurt. I would love to give myself a saving hand and tell myself that everything turned out okay in the end and that everything I experienced makes sense today. Almost like a puzzle and at the end of it a yellow butterfly emerged. In the second book I wanted to give other people the SPACE for thoughts, feelings and stories. So, I went looking for stories. Sometimes they came to me on their own. So, I chose people who go through life courageously and can inspire other people. This felt EVEN better in the end.
- What are the messages you want to send out with your book?
The first guest workers-kids in Germany had a hard time, but at the same time, we did it good. We learned to organise our self and make the right decision. So, we learned to manage our life by ourselves. Our parents had to work so hard. There was no time for the problems or wishes of their children. I don´t want that our stories get forgotten, because there is a lot of hard work too. We lived in a world without the Internet. We went to the library and studied with books. We were looking forward to a chilled can of Coke and singing along to songs by Michael Jackson and Madonna. King of Queens and Friends were highlights. But the longing for a room of my own was also great. That’s why I name my books SPACE, because there is room for me here.
- How did your passion for Writing started?
I wrote in my childhood a lot of diaries. So, it wasn´t a problem for me, to write a book, better, a new diary. There was no room for me because the rental apartment was only 50 square meters and was “small” for sometimes 4 people, but there were many empty lines in the diaries. Only today do I realize this longing for my children to have their own room. I am aware that even today this is a luxury in a big city like Cologne. A room is not just a ROOM, but a place for personal development. How happy I would be back then if I could hang posters of my favourite singers on the wall of my own room.
- Are you planning to write more books? Can you tell us more about it?
I can´t stop it. In my mind I´m writing new stories. There are people around me, who tells me their stories and I compare it with my story. If the universe wants it me to publish more books, so it will be. I’m excited to see what time will bring. A chapter for the next book is already written in the study. This is about the Turkish woman I met on the train in the middle of the night, and she told me her life. She is a cleaning lady and is divorced. She has 2 sons that she raised alone. Her eldest son is studying in Korea and her youngest is doing an apprenticeship and wants to study like his older brother. With the money she makes as a cleaning lady, this woman manages to leave two miracles for our world. I am proud for this woman and want to write more about courage. Like people who rock the stage as a drag queen in the evening and work as a receptionist during the day. Like mothers who work in cafes and have 3 daughters studying law. But also, about women who hope that marriage will lead to a better life for themselves and their children. But it shouldn’t just be about women, but also about the fathers who do shift work at day and night for their families. Everyone has a common goal: a better LIFE!
