Today we talk about Loving Your Liver. The Complete Guide to Liver Detox, a book by Hrvoje Miletic and Simon Taylor Robinson published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the authors Hrvoje Miletic and Simon Taylor Robinson, to get to know them better, what was the specific moment that led them to the writing of their book Loving Your Liver. The Complete Guide to Liver Detox, as well as the reason why the majority of the food presented on the cover book are purple.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Was the idea for this book born at a particular moment?
The book combines the medical expertise of Simon Taylor-Robinson as a liver doctor and Hrvoje Miletic as a food expert. We felt that there was no book on liver detox that combined easy medical advice with simple recipes, so decided to rectify that gap in the market. The liver is the largest organ in the body and is responsible for processing and removing all the toxins and waste products in the body, which are then either eliminated from the body in the bile or in the urine. We go through a step-by-step introduction as to what a healthy liver does, what happens if the liver is unhealthy and what you can do to combat this. Of course, a healthy, balanced diet is critical to this, as “you are what you eat”. The recipes make use of foods that have natural anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties, such as purple fruit and vegetables – for example, the lycopenes that make them a purple colour have natural anti-inflammatory properties. Of course, it is more complex than that, but then you would have to read the book!
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
We would like to make sure the readers have a simple, but achievable guide to liver detox – that they understand what their body does, how it tries to achieve a natural equilibrium and how we can go back into a state of balance with some easy tips on diet and avoiding foods that are not healthy for the liver when it is trying to achieve a state of body harmony. It is important to remember that the liver has the ability to regenerate itself and to heal any damage, given the right circumstances in the body. Critical to this is eating well – so the recipes that we suggest are easy ones to incorporate healthy foods that aid the liver in its repair jobs!
- I noticed that on the cover of the book you the majority of the food presented is purple. What is the specific reason?
Purple foods are high in antioxidants which help to regenerate the liver. Purple foods like beetroot, red cabbage, aubergines, blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants have an anti-inflammatory effect and help with healing. The natural ingredients in them, such as lycopenes have an anti-inflammatory effect and aid the liver in its ability to repair itself and also to process toxins and waste products that build up in the body, either naturally through breakdown processes of cells in the body (such as our muscles), or through what we eat and drink (often when we make unwise choices!).
- What was it like to work together?
It was very easy to work together – Hrvoje came up with the recipes very easily to accompany the medical theme elaborated by Simon. We met several times to discuss the menu plan for the recipes, but once he started, Hrvoje was on a “roll” and was able to draw on his immense experience of producing food plans over his professional career. Most medical books do not have a set of recipes to correct problems, so we felt that while it was important to explain potentially bad news with all the medical chapters, we also provided a balance with easy to achieve dietary goals and recipes – a sort of “yin” to the “yang” to continue the theme of harmony, equilibrium and balance.
- How was your publishing experience?
Europe Books were very efficient and very comprehensive in their support for the authors. The team provided support at every step of the way with good editing and graphic design, in addition to support on book launches – really the full package!
Europe Books thanks the authors Hrvoje Miletic and Simon Taylor Robinson, once again for taking the time and answering our questions.
