Doggy and Me were never apart,
Together each day, every new start.
When I opened my eyes the first thing I ‘d see,
Was Doggy here waiting, jumping with glee.
This made me smile and filled me with joy,
But was Doggy real or was he a toy?
The answer of course didn’t matter to me
Because Doggy was my friend, as loyal as can be.
With Doggy at my side I was happy and free,
We would head down the stairs to see what’s on TV.
Each morning at breakfast I’d sneak him some toast,
Jam was his favourite, he liked that the most.
As the fire burned we’d plan out our day,
Lots of activities, adventures and play.
Mum said it was cold and to put on my hat,
I threw on my coat and we were off just like that.
Today we talk about Doggy & Me, a book by W.J. Andrews published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author W.J. Andrews to get to know him better, what he wants to communicate to his readers, as well as where he found the inspiration that led him to the writing of his book Doggy & Me.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write this story?
The inspiration for the story was my son. He has a soft toy called Doggy that he has had for years, sleeps with every night and takes everywhere with him. He saw something which showed the original soft toys that were the inspiration for the Winnie the Pooh series and how a child, playing with his toys, inspired his father to write a story about the toys. My son then asked me if he thought there would ever be a book about Doggy. It was at that point that I decided I would write a book for him and illustrate it, so that he too could have a story about his favourite soft toy.
- What do you want to communicate to readers with this work?
When writing this, I was just hoping a child, reading it, could simply see through the eyes of another young child spending the day with his best friend. How simple things in life can bring happiness and how a good friendship can make everything feel better.
- Do you have any writing plans for the future, you can tell us about?
Depending on what happens with the first book. In the future I would hope to write more “Doggy & Me” books and possibly, create a collection. Maybe I could write other ones aimed at younger audiences. I have few ideas but it always depends on any success of the current Doggy & Me.
Europe Books thanks the author W.J. Andrews once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside him on the editorial path that led to the publication of his book Doggy & Me. We wish him the best of luck for this novel and for his future works.
