Today we talk about AN ODYSSEY THROUGH SELF, a book by Boateng Asiedu published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Boateng Asiedu to get to know him better, where and when he found the inspiration to write his book AN ODYSSEY THROUGH SELF, as well as he chose the title of his book.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where and when did you find the inspiration to write your book?
Much like the protagonist, I have always used writing to reconcile my thoughts, to understand my emotions, and ultimately, to understand myself. As a deeply private person, I rarely laid my true thoughts bare—not even in my personal writing. To protect myself, I sought a balance between revealing and obscuring the truth, blending fact with fiction. Over time, my writing became a way to decipher how I felt about everything I encountered, to express emotions to loved ones, and to release my frustrations. This process left me with a collection of short pieces, each a fragment of my evolving perspective. As I became more attuned to the world around me, I couldn’t ignore the dilemmas people faced daily—the choices we made, often unaware of their far-reaching consequences. Then, after personally experiencing the devastation that could arise from those unintended consequences, I realized my own complicity. I had always observed, always understood, yet I had kept those insights to myself. That realization compelled me to create An Odyssey Through Self. I wanted to craft a narrative that would encourage greater self-awareness, helping us not only to understand ourselves but, as a natural extension, to see beyond ourselves, to see others.
- What is the message you want to convey to your readers?
At its core, the message is one of self-awareness and personal growth. We need to strive to be better—not just so we don’t suffer needlessly, but also to prevent causing others to. Life isn’t a straight path—we may have clear desires, but the journey toward them is often uncertain. We expect life to unfold in ways we can predict, but more often than not, it surprises us. Through this story, I want to remind readers that life isn’t just about getting what we want—it’s more about becoming ready for said things. The only thing we can truly control is ourselves. We can’t dictate outcomes, but we can choose how we respond. And most importantly, we can choose to be intentional—to treat others with kindness, to act with integrity, and to trust that, in time, we will be rewarded accordingly. We are not isolated beings—our actions have consequences, not just for ourselves but for those around us. I hope this book encourages readers to pause and consider their own journey, to reflect on their decisions and the ripples they create. Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to chase after dreams—it’s to become worthy of them.
- How did you choose the title of your book?
Well, it’s hard to write about a journey of growth and self-discovery without thinking of The Odyssey by Homer—a personal favorite of mine. So naturally, when the narrative began to take shape, I knew it was, at its core, an odyssey. The only question was: what kind of odyssey was I embarking on? As I shaped the story, I realized that the journey wasn’t through some distant or imaginary land—it was an exploration of the self. The struggles, transformations, and revelations weren’t external adventures; they were deeply personal, reflections of the inner battles we all face. Every chapter became a mirror, revealing the ways in which life molds us, the lessons we learn through hardship, and the choices that define who we become. The title became clear as I read through each chapter. This was An Odyssey Through Self—not just for my protagonist, but for me as well. And hopefully, for every reader who engages with it. Because at its heart, this book isn’t just a story—it’s an invitation. A chance to reflect, to recognize our own odysseys, and perhaps, to emerge from them with greater understanding.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
I honestly still haven’t fully come to terms with it. It feels surreal—unreal, even. I might need more time before it truly sinks in. This wasn’t something I dreamed of or actively pursued. In many ways, I feel like I was simply along for the ride, carried by one providential occurrence after another. And now, here I am—a published author. What I do know is that I am deeply grateful. Grateful to God for His guidance, His providence, and His grace. Grateful to my parents for their unwavering support and encouragement. Grateful to the incredible people I’ve met along this short but extraordinary journey—those who have shaped my life in ways big and small. I can only hope that my presence in their stories has been as meaningful as theirs have been in mine. And above all, I can’t express enough gratitude to God for the gift of stories. They are the lifeblood of dreams, the reflections of grace, and the mirrors of the human soul. I can’t even begin to imagine a world without them.
- Are you working on a new writing project, you can tell us about?
I am, actually. Unfinished stories have always bugged me—I wouldn’t do that to my readers. I’ve been working on completing Michael’s story. An Odyssey Through Time, the sequel to this very book, answers all lingering questions about Michael and his world. It is possibly my greatest achievement to date, surpassing even the original. As is evident in my tone, I take immense pride in it. As its title suggests, this time, we journey through time instead of self. To tell Michael’s story in its entirety, we embark on a Back-to-the-Future kind of trip, navigating past, present, and future with a device that unfolds time like a scroll, bending it to our will. We witness Michael’s teenage years and the events that shaped him into the man we know. We uncover answers about Elena, along with revelations that challenge our perception of reality. The lingering repercussions of Michael’s choices are explored, and we finally pull Kelvin—my favorite but often elusive character—out of the shadows, shining a little light on him. An Odyssey Through Time stretches eternity out before its readers, offering meaning in our struggles and assurance in our steps. I can’t wait to share it with the world.
Europe Books thanks the author Boateng Asiedu once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside him on the editorial path that led to the publication of his book AN ODYSSEY THROUGH SELF. We wish him the best of luck for his book and for his future works.
To you, my dear reader, may this book, full of messages and food for thought, enable to ask yourself questions about the type of life you are living, how you are living it and what you can do to improve it. My personal suggestion is that every night, before going to sleep, ask yourself “Today have I done everything I could do for my life? Could I have done something different and better? If so, what?
So, my dear reader, all I have to say is to enjoy your reading!
