Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Taryn Pearce, to get to know her better, where she found the inspiration to write her book CANDYCANE The Very “EXTRA” Elf, as well as what parents and children will understand through her story.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write about Candycane the elf?
The inspiration for writing about Candycane, our Christmas elf, came from the many zany and imaginative things he did each holiday season. I had so much fun coming up with new and creative scenarios for him—everything from hiding in unusual places to setting up elaborate scenes. My friends loved hearing about these antics and often asked for updates. I realized that these stories had a special kind of magic and joy that could resonate with both children and parents. So, I thought, why not turn these adventures into a book? It felt like a great way to share the festive spirit and fun with a wider audience.
- What would you like to hear from your young readers?
I hope that readers, both young and old, find a sense of wonder and delight in Candycane’s adventures. I want the story to remind families of the joy of creativity and imagination, especially during the holiday season. It’s about embracing the fun and magic of Christmas, creating special memories, and enjoying the time spent together. If the book brings a smile to a child’s face or sparks a fun tradition for a family, then I’d consider it a success!
- What will parents and children understand through your story?
Throughout the story of Candy Cane, I hope children and parents will grasp a few key themes. For kids, the story is meant to spark their imagination and creativity. By seeing the playful and sometimes mischievous antics of Candycane, children can learn that it’s fun to let their imaginations run wild and to find joy in the little things during the holiday season. For parents, the story can serve as a reminder of the magic and wonder that the holidays bring and how important it is to create memorable experiences with their children. It’s also a great way for parents to connect with their kids through shared stories and traditions. Overall, the story aims to celebrate the fun of Christmas, the value of family time, and the joy that comes from simple, creative activities.
- What is it that you like the most about Christmas?
What I enjoy most about Christmas is the festive spirit that comes with the season. It’s a time when we can let go of everyday stress and immerse ourselves in fun, joy, and creativity. I cherish the opportunity to create lasting memories with my family and loved ones. Whether it’s through holiday traditions, festive decorations, or simply spending quality time together, Christmas offers a special chance to celebrate and enjoy the magic of the season.
- Are you working on new writing projects that you can tell us about?
I’m currently considering a sequel to this book. While I haven’t started writing it yet, I have a lot more fun and imaginative antics for Candycane that I haven’t had the chance to include in the first book. The response to the story has been so positive, and I’d love to continue exploring new adventures and bringing more holiday magic to readers. So, stay tuned—there might be more from Candycane on the way!
