Today we talk about Dreams for my country, a book by Pedro Vilanculo published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Pedro Vilanculo to get to know him better, what prompted him to write his book Dreams for my country, as well as what was his first publishing experience like.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What prompted you to the writing of your book?
I have been inquisitive since childhood. At a certain point I realized that since childhood to date, the news that I hear about my country of Mozambique and my continent of Africa talk about poverty, lack of this or that, and defaults and incapability to pay debt. Also, I have heard a lot of unreasonable justifications of why we are poor. Aside this, I have not been aware of consistent ideas and or any long-term plan as to how we can work for the betterment of our country, and we blame others for our failures. Considering the above writing Dreams for my Country was inevitable for me as this was an opportunity for me share what I believe to be the real causes of our failures as a country and as a continent at large. This was equally an opportunity for me to propose a new political paradigm and a perspective we can adopt in order to tackle our challenges to improve the state of Mozambique and Africa by building our nation’s economy and strong internal market and deliver for the people in a foreseeable future. “Dreams for My Country” is a voice for the critical minds and hearts of Mozambicans and Africans who want to see change.
- What is the message you want to convey to your readers?
The message I want to convey to the readers is a message of hope for a better and shared future for Mozambique and Africa and propose remind about the relevance of self-confidence and having a robust and smart plan to transform the country and the continent without having the blame others for our shortcomings.
- How would you define your writing style?
This is my first book ever. I do not know how I can define my writing style. But what I wish I could have done would be to convey my thoughts with easy, using plain language and where profound reflections and I ideas could be shared with simplicity and humour without missing the purpose of the message.
- How was your publishing experience?
It was an interesting experience and an opportunity also to learn about how the process of publishing a book works as this is my first time publishing a book. I enjoyed working with different people at Europe Books throughout different stages of the publishing process until we had the book released. And I appreciate the assistance provided to me by each Europe Books personnel I worked with during this process and thank them all for their support and patience to make this book publication project successful.
- Are you working on a new writing project, you can tell us about?
I have in my mind one writing projects which I plan to work on in the future. But I will start working on the said project in two years from now, as I have other commitments at the moment. I will take the opportunity of the time in between to learn about the feedback from readers of Dreams from My Country and learn about how I can do better in the next writing project to giver readers a much better reading experience.
