Today we talk about Existence, a book by Caelan Amaris published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Caelan Amaris to get to know him better, where he found the inspiration to write his book Existence, as well as how he defines his Writing styles.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Where did you find the inspiration to write your collection of poems?
To me, my biggest inspiration was the life I have lived and the life, I am to live. I truly believe that my creativity stems from my childhood. I was an odd child, viewing the world and people differently—I always sought to find the beauty in everything, from the smallest rock to the largest problems. This mentality was so crucial to my upbringing that I could not help this sensation that would overwhelm me to write, and the words would flow naturally from the ink onto the paper…Obviously, it helped that my parents have always been willing to nurture whatever talent or hobby I wanted to pursue, no matter how nonsensical. My siblings have been nothing but warm and loving, having always got my back. My family is an important part of my identity, of my inspiration—by having such a supportive home, I have always felt like nothing could do me wrong.
- What are the crucial themes of your work?
My work, my poetry is melancholic in nature, tackling mysteries that have always intrigued me. I’ve spent long hours contemplating life, death and existence…sleepless nights, endless poems and a spiralling void of thoughts. I have tried to make sense of life and humanity as one can best comprehend, plunging myself into mythology and history to see if maybe the past held the answers to the questions that have been troubling me. This book, my baby is a mishmash of the good, the bad, the ugly. No topic or concept is left unanswered, untouched, undiscovered—from love and loss to birth and redemption, from hate and dread to pleasure and desire—because it is in our nature to do everything and find everything. This book treats life like a puzzle, with each step as a clue into uncovering the secrets of the unknown.
- What do you want to communicate to readers with this work?
What I try to communicate with my writing, what I hope the readers get from this book is that we are all the same. We, humans, have our struggles and our ups and downs…life is not as simple as black and white. Life is a rollercoaster, obviously there are some parts that you want to get off and give up but there are those moments of adrenaline, of pure bliss. I want everyone to try and see the beauty that is life—and sure, there are days your eyes are foggy with tears but with no rain, there can’t be a rainbow. Am I right? Likewise, love isn’t so different. It’s a puzzle, we have to navigate. What we experience and how we go past them is the most crucial part of it..
- How would you define your Writing style?
My poetry typically highlights experience, expression and emotion from the point of view of the speaker of the poem. I, as the poet, and you, as the reader, step into the shoes of this persona and live through their shoes. To live
- Are you planning to write more books? Can you tell us something about it?
I have four books in the works. It’s not easy working on them simultaneously. The first book is something I expect to be a sequel to Existence; obviously, it can be read as a standalone but with similar themes and topics, in my mind, it makes sense for them to be related. This next instalment is called Continuum, it is also where I attempt a new writing style. Just like ‘Existence’ it will contain different parts, with particular emphasis on space and time…Unfortunately, I’m still a student and there are days I completely forget about writing. But I’m doing my best to balance both my career as an author and my academics.
Europe Books thanks the author Caelan Amaris once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside him on the editorial path that led to the publication of his book Existence. We wish him the best of luck for his book and for his future works.
To you, my dear reader, I hope you may remember that we are all the same. We must learn to live our life, navigating by sight, making the most of the moments full of pure happiness and adrenaline, and learning from those events that leave us sad or foggy. Because that’s life!
So, my dear reader, all I have to say is to enjoy your reading!
