Today we talk about My experience as a leader a book by George Moore, published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author George Moore to get to know him better, what was the moment that led him to the writing of his book My experience as a leader, as well as what are the messages he wants to convey with his book.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What was the moment in your life that led you to the writing of your book?
Having served the youth leadership of my local church for 5 years, and about to hand over to my assistant, I thought of calling him together with the other executive members of the team to share my experience to them over the years as a leader. So they can learn from me, and they can have a base to start their own journey. I know they have learnt a lot from me over the years by what they see and hear from me and what we share together. But reflecting on my leadership journey may bring out some things they missed out and give them fresh insight and courage to be exemplary leaders. I initially didn’t think of writing a book. I first summoned a 3 days retreat where I had a slot to share my experience. But the retreat finished and could not finish even one third of my bullet points. I tried to convene another meeting to this end, yet to no avail. But in contemplating “what would be my gift to my successor on the day of the handing over ceremony”…this book was born: “My experience as a Leader”
- What particularly significant experiences in your life find expression in your book?
The book is titled: “My experience as a leader”, it is indeed the practical experiences and wisdom I have gathered over the years. 21 of those significant experiences find expression in the book raging from courage, hard work, mentorship to living a balanced life. But one particular one I would like to mention here is courage. One of the first lessons I learnt before I ever assume any leadership position was courage. I one day took steps to form a team of young rejected boys to register for small local and unofficial football competition in our community even though I was feeling inferior and fearful. But the outcome was surprising and fulfilling as the underdogs became a force to recon with in the league. I had no regret to defy my fears and feeling to move however to the direction of my goal. Courage! There are many others I could mention, but each lesson in the book may share how they find expression in my practical life.Get a copy of the book and find out for yourself. 21 vital lessons of leadership await you.
- What are the messages you want to convey with your book?
My key message I want to convey in this book is courage – courage to take responsibility, and confidence and faith to face the task at hand, move toward the goal/vision, and face the leadership responsibility in the midst of the greatest of fears, inferiority, inadequacies and challenges. So sharing my story (a humble story) to you may not just encourage you, but give you hope and trust in what you can do. The next message I would like to convey in this book is as stated in the caption of the ninth chapter (Lesson Nine), “Don’t rush, just impact.” With or without the position, you can still create impact which has the potential to bring you to the position, keep you there and grant you a fulfilled life at the end even if you don’t have any position or title. So needless to fight, force or cut corners to attain leadership position or title. In other words the way to the top is impact. Finally, we are all created by the Creator, God Almighty, with a specific purpose to accomplish on earth. So allowing Him in our daily lives and plan will be fruitful and fulfilling at the end.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
First it is courage… to say no to the voices within that asked: “who are you, what can you write, who can read it, and who can dare publish it or promote it?” So to see all these questions being overcome today by having my book being published by one of the renowned publishers in Europe, Europe Books, provides just another evidence that this thing called courage or faith can work. Second, I became more confident about my God-given abilities, ideas and thoughts and all the potentials the Creator has deposited in me. Finally, I am encouraged to do more and I am truly grateful to God who freely granted me the abilities to write and I am grateful for all the people that rendered support to make this happen especially Europe books to believe in me and grant me their platform to publish my first book. I am inspired.
- Are you planning to write more books?
Yes of course, I am planning to write many books ahead! When these interview questions came in for my response, I read it together with my wife who smiled at this question, because she knows that I have many books in me. I love writing and enjoying writing and it is one of my hobbies. Now, I have been encouraged more than ever to pursue it professionally. In fact one of my most fulfilling goals achieved last year in 2021 was completing a manuscript I have been working on for so long and its content is rich and life transformational. But because it is research base, I am looking forward to the publication in the future after practically proven some of the findings. It is the biggest manuscript and probably the most important manuscript I have ever worked on so far. This year I have made a resolution to write and probably publish at least one book a year as long as I live and as long as God can permit me. Watch out…
Europe Books thanks the author George Moore once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside him on the editorial path that led to the publication of his book My experience as a leader. We wish him the best of luck for his book and for his future works.
To you, my dear reader, I wish that the messages that the author wants to convey, through the reading of this book, will arrive to your mind and to your heart loud and clear, that they will give you courage, hope and confidence to carry on what you do or what you intend to do, without waiting for someone to give you permission to do so. In conclusion, I quote the author as my personal greeting message “Don’t rush, just impact”.
So, my dear reader, all I have to say is to enjoy this very inspiring and motivating reading!
