Before I describe the hellish 4 A North section of the old Don Jail it is important to recount the events that led up to me being there against my will. I recall all too well having been in the act of taking a photo of my Fox Terrier Spike who was standing in the driver’s seat with his paws on the steering wheel of my car as though he was driving. My car was parked at the edge of the underground parking lot at Yonge and Eglington in Toronto. The date was the 30th of October 1986, very early in the morning. Suddenly, I was grabbed from behind and very quickly I was wearing handcuffs on my wrists behind my back. Spike, always protective, was furiously trying to get out of the car to save me from the villain who had taken away my freedom unjustly. The criminal who had handcuffed me was PC Kathy McCormack of the Toronto Police. She was the daughter of the Chief of Police, William McCormack. Kathy McCormack’s partner was PC Dennis Dupuis, who seemed to not want anything to do with my illegal arrest in that he was standing distant from me and his partner. I had very recently returned from spending time with my lover Ann Nelson in the Interior of British Columbia where we were trying to get her pregnant. I had been swimming in the very cold waters of Kootenay Lake and was suffering from bronchitis. When PC McCormack illegally arrested me, my intention was to fetch Spike and take a taxi home because I was over the 0.08 blood alcohol level and exhausted.
Today we talk about Operation Ransac – Conspiracy, a book by Eric Biddle published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Eric Biddle to get to know him better, where he found the inspiration that brought him to the writing of his personal story in the book Operation Ransac – Conspiracy, as well as the first book he read and what it taught him.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- When and why did you decide to write your personal story?
It was about 3 years ago that I decided to write my personal story. I decided to write it because I finally realised that my great efforts over many years to get some media coverage of what had happened to me in Canada was all in vain. The political and legal forces allied against me to cover up my horrendous ordeal were just too powerful in conspiracy. In addition, I yielded to my passionate desire for the truth after so many lies had been written about me.
- What sensations did you feel by ‘reading’ your life on the pages of your book?
One very powerful sensation I got by reading my life on the pages of my book was that of helplessness during most of my 8.5 years wrongly imprisoned. But there was a time of great hope when I learned that prominent Drs. Robert J McCaldon and Hans Arndt counter conspired for me by advocating secretly with a Supreme Court Judge to set me free.
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
My greatest hope from my readers is that they start questioning what is really occurring in Canadian courtrooms. I also hope and pray that Canadians will start to vigorously advocate for the reforms detailed in my book. I dream of a total overhaul of the Canadian legal system including the appointment of Judges.
- What was the first book you read and what did it teach you?
The first book I remember reading is an American classic called The Ransom of Red Chief. This great book taught me the importance of humour. And too bloody bad if politically correct feathers are ruffled. Now more than ever our treasured Freedom of Expression and Speech are being threatened.
- Are you planning to write more books?
I hope very much to write more books and again in non-fiction from my life experiences in many countries. It is my plan to expose hypocrisy and corruption. One book I have in mind concerns an Italian aristocrat, actually a Baron, who was temporarily living in Canada for safety from the Red Brigades. We worked together for the same company and were good friends. My plan to expose the incompetence and coverup of the Peel Regional Police should be of interest to many readers.
Europe Books thanks the author Eric Biddle once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside him on the editorial path that led to the publication of his book Operation Ransac – Conspiracy. We wish him the best of luck for his book and for his future works.
To you, my dear reader, may this book capture and amuse your reading time. I wish it will also allow you to have new insights and food for thoughts that you could reflect upon and find a way to apply in your everyday life.
So, my dear reader, all I have to say is to enjoy your reading!
