Today we talk about The Unholy Tithe, a book by Apostle Johanes Vegba published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author Apostle Johanes Vegba to get to know him better, what prompted him to write his book The Unholy Tithe, as well as how he choose the title of his book.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- Is there a particular moment in your life that led you to the writing of your book? What was it?
As a minister of the Gospel, I felt embarrassed by the numerous misinformation and misinterpretation of the subject of tithing. Consequently, as I taught people about the concept of tithes, I felt a strong inspiration for me to write on the subject of tithes. Despite my initial hesitancy, the inspiration to write became louder and stronger and I eventually decided to yield to the inner voice that was prompting me to write the book. Therefore when I became a full time minister of the gospel in November, 2022, I decided to take the bull by the horns and fulfil the inspirational call to write about tithes in order to clear the misinformation and misinterpretation on the subject of tithes. Therefore early in the year 2023, I started in-depth research work into the subject of tithes. Through prayers and the guidance and leadership of the Holy Spirit, I received immense revelation, knowledge and wisdom on the subject matter. Coupled with my own experience as an avid tither, I started putting my materials and thoughts together and by the end of the year 2023, the manuscript had been completed and ready for publication to the glory of God.
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
The most important reason for writing this book is to impart knowledge and clear the misinformation, disinformation and misinterpretation on the subject of tithing. The aim was to decipher the mind of God in connection with the subject of tithes and to project same. The goal therefore is clear and unambiguous. My greatest pleasure will be to hear from the readers whether:
- The goal for writing the book was achieved.
- The style of presentation was reader friendly.
- The book was instructive enough and whether they received adequate and thorough information to make them take a definite decision on the subject matter.
- They will want to learn more on this or any other subject.
- Their expectations were met after reading the book.
I will also want to have any critical reviews or feedback they have on the book to assist in making amendments and improvements for the second edition of the book. I would however prefer sincere thoughts and comments as opposed to argumentative and opinionated comments which only seek to project a particular viewpoint than that of God. God instituted tithes and so every comment must be tailored towards admitting and accepting that view point.
- Is there a book you are particularly attached to and that has taught you something?
Unless the Bible can be regarded as a book, the answer will be in the negative. But if the Bible is considered a book then the answer is yes. I receive most of my knowledge, wisdom, understanding and rhema through the reading and meditation on the Bible and the research from various sources on any subject matter. The Bible therefore remains my true source book which had made a lot of impact on my life. The Bible has shaped my life and understanding of life and has provided me with the arsenal to fight and overcome any challenges in life. The Bible has taught me the ways of God and the reason for life and existence. As an avid student of the bible, there is always a desire to have an intimate knowledge of the word of God in order to please God. That burning desire causes me to meditate on the word of God always and to read very often. This has birthed in me the knowledge, wisdom and understanding to write this book.
- How did you choose the title of your book?
The title of the book was chosen through meditation and the leading of the spirit. As a book that is meant to correct misconceptions, the title must be attractive to make people want to read the contents of the book. Therefore the objective was to choose a title which does not contribute to the debate but rather throws more light on the subject matter. At the same time, there was a careful decision not to give much out for any side of the debate to assume the book confirms their position or view point. These considerations led me to choose a title which is ambivalent on the topic requiring the reader to read in order to know the contents of the book. As a result, the title of the book is inviting but at the same time is not suggestive of anything until one reads the contents. Therefore through medication, the title that was revealed was “The Unholy Tithe”. The reason being that, it is our attitude to tithing that makes our tithes unholy and not the fact that the early Church did not receive tithes.
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
I am actually working on a new exciting project on marriage. It is biblically based but also culturally sensitive and conscious of the impact of modernity on marriage. It looks at marriage in its generality, the various concepts of marriage and the validity of marriage. Most of the topics bedevilling marriages in our time are tackled and remedies for dealing with them are proposed. It gives guidance on how to have a peaceful, harmonious and successful marriage. Some of the things considered in the project are the fuel for life long relationships and the foundations of marriage. The book seeks to explore and decipher the meaning of the word love and its relationship to marriage. Tips for married couples to use in their marriages to ensure its success are also provided to ensure that marriages don’t fall on rocks before attempts are made to salvage them. The book will prove to be of an immeasurable assistance to couples and prospective couples alike. I am very much upbeat about its success and can’t wait to have it published.
