Today we talk about A dog’s life in Italy, a book by Amanda Susan Geddes published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author, Amanda Susan Geddes, to get to know her better, the moment that led her to the writing of her book A dog’s life in Italy, as well as if her dog could speak, what would she like to hear from him.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What is the moment that brought you to the writing of your book?
The moment that brought me to the writing of this book was when my husband and I took our young dog Tyson to the Vet to obtain the results of some tests that he had previously done after not being well. Unfortunately, they were not good! It wasn’t a simple skin allergy that we and the Vet had hoped his symptoms led too, but something much more serious and the most devastating part of the news was that it could be incurable and for life. When I returned home, Tyson and I went for our little daily walk and having the time to reflect a moment on what had happened and what we had to face, I got a sudden urge to write about his life and his character, so that he would never be forgotten
- What is the message you want to communicate to your readers?
The message I want to communicate to my readers is basically that when you have a pet dog, he or she becomes a member of the family for life. I have especially tried to explain to a young person wanting to adopt a puppy that a lot has to be taken into consideration first as it is a responsibility and commitment that lasts for a very long time, and may even change your lifestyle. Consequently, the initial decision of whether to have a pet puppy/dog or not, needs to be taken very seriously. If the answer is positive though, there is nothing that can substitute the relationship between humans and their dog, the unconditional love, loyalty, companionship etc that they give is unlimited. Another point I have underlined is that they want to be a part of your family, they want to be with you and do things together. Obviously, as it is Tyson who tells the story, I communicate to my readers how I think he sees life, what he thinks, the decisions he has to make etc, and all this happening in a beautiful part of Italy.
- If your dog could speak, what would you like to hear from him?
If Tyson could speak, this is what I would like him to say:- “Don’t worry Amanda, I will help solve the problems of the world. I will become a super dog with super powers and I will eradicate all evil from the earth. No more cruelty, no more wars, no more hunger or greed or destruction or pollution. A team of us will renew the world and make it become a paradise for all its inhabitants who will live in peace, showing love and respect to all that surrounds them. When I have completed my mission, you can write about it all in your next book, or perhaps we could make it into a film”.
- How did it feel to see your book published?
I probably started writing my story about four years ago, but I didn’t work on it consistently because of family or home commitments. In fact, I would do quite a bit during the summer months when I had more free time, and then it would get forgotten about for a while due to being busy. Eventually though, the manuscript began to grow, the number of pages increased and I began imagining it as a book, with a cover and on the cover a title and my name underneath it. This has been a completely new venture for me and so the very first time to create a book has been really exciting. To receive the news that the story I had written was worthy enough to be published was an unforgettable day in my life. I felt extremely honored that people had spent and would spend their precious time to read my book, and when eventually I saw the published version for the first time in front of me, I was overwhelmed with a great sense of satisfaction. I had actually brought my idea and project to an end and had accomplished this unthinkable achievement
- Are you working on a new writing project you can tell us about?
Not once in my earlier life had I ever thought I would become a writer, and so this is an example of how life can be full of surprises and can lead you to new unimaginable avenues. Regarding a future writing project, yes, I am working on a sequel to “A dog’s life in Italy”, but there is nothing concrete at present. I also have a few other ideas that I’m considering, so we’ll see.
Europe Books thanks the author, Amanda Susan Geddes, once again for taking the time and answering our questions. We are really pleased to have walked alongside her on the editorial path that led to the publication of her book A dog’s life in Italy. We wish her the best of luck for her future works.
To you, my readers, I hope the story told by Tyson brings you thoughts to think about for your daily life and how to make it better. In the same way, it will let you understand that living with a dog is a commitment that must be taken seriously; a sweet 4-legged friends, to love and take care of in the same way as he/she loves back devotedly and unconditionally.
So, my dear reader, all I have to say is to enjoy your reading!
