Today we talk about There are not only stars in the sky, a book by V. White published with our publishing house Europe Books.
Europe Books had the pleasure of interviewing the author V. White to get to know him better, the moment that prompted him to the writing of his book There are not only stars in the sky, as well as how his passion for Writing started.
Below you can find our interview. Take a seat and enjoy your reading!!!
- What prompted you to write your book?
I wanted to escape from this world I don’t like, and to create my own. Unfortunately, it turned out that people in the new one also fight over power and money, but on a much larger scale – they already buy and rule entire planets. Yet, the ending was in my hands and I was able to finish it the way I wanted. Books are an escape; however, I didn’t manage to escape, and I put a heavy burden on my characters, but I’m happy with their performance. I also wrote “There Are Not Just Stars in the Sky” at the request of a friend who wanted to read something different from fantasy. It turned out to be the favourite book of many people; I myself would read it again and again: there is always something to discover in its colorful story. In the book, there are also some real people, who have been part of my life and who have influenced me. I will keep their names in secret.
- What would you like to hear from your readers?
I don’t want answers. I want to see laughter, tears, emotions; I want people to experience the story with me; I want to make people think about certain things and to illuminate others. I’ve already received feedback from a reader – he has read something he thought was impossible to be described; he said I felt this thing exactly the same way he did. It is the hug. I also accept criticism, but generally I don’t get it, except that I can be cruel at times. The truth is that I try to recreate everything as it is – real, and not sugary; to make my characters “alive”, to show the good in the bad, and vice versa. I’m looking forward to seeing how readers would take the possible future I’m showing, and I’m most curious as to which character would become their favourite. The choice is difficult: no matter how different my characters are, at some point they all look alike and none of them can manifest himself without the others.
- How did your passion for writing start?
I said it at the beginning: I can’t change the world, so I started creating my own. I have always told stories, from a young age, and I have always had a vivid imagination. A woman made me start my first novel and since then I can’t stop. I felt I was giving people something they liked. For me, this is the most important thing in life: to leave some mark, even in just one heart. A small change in a person or even smaller in the whole world, but it is worth it. Inspiration comes from many things around us – a smile, a sea wave, a bird’s song, a dream. Sometimes bad emotions also prompt to fill the blank sheet with goodness. There are days when I don’t write; I just observe, tame my thoughts; my characters rest and meekly wait for me to lead them. There are others, when I can’t catch up with the story, which is galloping headlong. I need both.
- How much of you is there in the protagonist of the story?
Unfortunately for me, we have so much in common with the main character Antonio that it feels embarrassing sometimes. Maybe that’s why I created another image – of the bad boy, whom I would like to resemble more and whom I punished so many times in the novel. I am not a hero who will save the universe. But if there is a hand to hold yours, you can go much further than you think it is possible. I leave myself a loophole for escape, even though I didn’t give Antonio a window. But I gave him the love I felt myself, and it washed away my grudges against him. As I created a world, so I wanted to redraw myself.
- Can you tell us more about the new book you are currently writing?
I’m currently busy with the presentation of “Hagrat” , the fourth book of my “Tales from the Tardea Kingdoms” fantasy series , and it’s taking up a lot of my time. I’m still jotting down notes on a new steampunk fantasy story, but I’m getting ideas for some fantasy in there. It’s still a complete mess, so I’ll wait until it clarifies and clears up so I can start writing without overmixing genres. My fans also expect a continuation of the series, which would be in a future, unknown even to myself. I don’t want to get bored, so I experiment with new things so as to preserve my passion and keep it interesting for myself. After all, I read every book twenty times before it goes for publishing, and I shouldn’t get bored. I’m kidding about that last one, as I do with many other things.
